Basauri's public swimming pools are struggling to cope with the current extreme heatwave, experiencing a significant surge in visitors. The Artunduaga outdoor bathing complex, with a maximum capacity of nearly 2,000 people, and its water areas, designed for just over 300 bathers, are finding it difficult to manage the demand.
Problems are particularly acute in the afternoons, with long queues forming for those purchasing tickets at the box office. Some visitors have reported waiting up to 45 minutes just to enter the facility, and an additional hour to get into the water itself, a situation experienced on Monday and Tuesday.
In response to the recurring heatwaves, some residents have criticized the Basauri City Council for a lack of foresight, calling for better-preparedness and advance communication. Others argue the pools are too small for the town's population and suggest prioritizing season ticket holders during extreme heat, acknowledging the management challenges.
The City Council acknowledges "certain moments" of waiting but attributes it to a widespread issue across many municipalities due to the heatwave affecting all of Euskadi. They emphasize that capacity control is mandatory to ensure bather safety and proper facility operation.
Despite some user dissatisfaction, the Council has also received positive feedback from those who appreciate the organized and safe access procedures implemented for the pools.
