The warning comes after an incident on April 14 on Balejo Street, where a man was caught performing alleged improvements on water meter stopcocks in a building. Residents became suspicious at the time of payment, as the individual demanded 120 euros but refused to provide an invoice.
“"In the face of any unexpected visit, a reliable accreditation should always be demanded, and if the person cannot prove their status as an official operative, the intervention should be denied, and the Barakaldo Local Police should be notified immediately."
Given this behavior, residents alerted the Local Police, who, upon arrival, confirmed that the alleged worker lacked any identification, professional accreditation, or company logo, all of which are mandatory for any authorized operative working for the Consortium.
After the relevant checks, officers confirmed that this intervention had not been ordered by any official company. Furthermore, it was discovered that the same individual later attempted to access a nearby business with the same intention, although on this occasion, he was not allowed to intervene and left the area.
For all these reasons, the Councillor for Citizen Security, Ángel Madrazo, has reminded citizens of the importance of not allowing any repairs that have not been previously communicated. He recommends always demanding reliable accreditation and, if in doubt, immediately notifying the Barakaldo Local Police to prevent further scam attempts.
