With this expansion, Barakaldo strengthens the system developed in conjunction with the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, aiming to promote sustainable mobility. The new stations will be located in the neighborhoods of Retuerto, Gorostiza, San Vicente, Bagatza, and Zuazo-Arteagabeitia, thereby expanding the bicycle network within the municipality.
Among the new stations, some are already operational, such as Iguliz (since March 26) and Euskadi Avenue (launched this Wednesday). Others are set to open soon: the one near the Retuerto Cultural Center on Thursday, the San Bartolomé Street station scheduled for April 14, and Beurko Zaharra for April 15.
“"In fact, many times we saw stations where more bicycles were left than entered, and others remained empty. With this increase in stations, bicycles can be better distributed."
Although the number of stations is increasing, the total number of bicycles will remain at 273 units, having reached the maximum established in the current contract. The Barakaldo City Council is optimizing resource distribution to ensure bicycles reach more points in the city, thus achieving more sustainable, comfortable, and connected mobility, both within the municipality and with neighboring towns.
The Bizkaibizi service has been developed in a coordinated manner by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia and nine municipalities from the Left and Right Banks. This allows users to rent a bicycle in one municipality and return it in any of the affiliated municipalities, facilitating both intra-municipal and inter-municipal travel.
