Azkuna Zentroa in Bilbao has inaugurated the Tumo center, an initiative designed to provide teenagers aged 12 to 18 with free access to scientific, artistic, and technological skills.

The Tumo Center for Creative Technologies, located within Azkuna Zentroa, is an international extracurricular educational program where young people can freely choose their interests and develop a personal and professional portfolio for the future. Students will have the opportunity to learn about robotics, photography, video game development, graphic design, cinema, programming, music, animation, 3D modeling, and generative artificial intelligence.
This innovative model combines hyper-personalization of learning plans with individual discovery and workshops led by professionals. This approach allows young people to explore different disciplines and decide their future path after completing their schooling. Fundación 'La Caixa' has invested approximately 10 million euros over the next four years for the adaptation of the space and the center's opening. The initiative is supported by the Bizkaia Provincial Council and the Bilbao City Council.

"Here we have the opportunity to practice what interests us most. The way and the idea they have of teaching are different, dynamic, and fun."

Registrations are now open for young people aged 12 to 18 from Bilbao and Bizkaia. The program will kick off with intensive summer sessions from June 29 to July 3, and the official 2026-2027 academic year will begin on October 5. The center is expected to accommodate around 1,000 students annually, divided into six learning groups of approximately 170 young people each. Operating hours will be Monday to Friday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

"We don't give out diplomas; what we want is for them to learn, participate in workshops, and finish with a project or product they can add to their portfolio."

The Tumo program has an international reach, with over 25,000 students enrolled in more than 10 countries. Since its inception, over 60,000 young people have participated in the initiative, which has centers in various locations in Armenia, as well as in cities like Paris, Berlin, Tirana, Mannheim, Lisbon, Coimbra, and Los Angeles. Bilbao is the first city in Spain to host this space.
