The seventh edition of the BBK Art Route, titled Animalario, will bring reproductions of 38 artworks from the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum's collection to 30 municipalities in Bizkaia, encouraging reflection on the symbolic value of animal representations in art.

This year, the seventh edition of La Ruta del Arte BBK / Artearen Ibilbidea will visit 30 towns in Bizkaia with the Animalario exhibition. This initiative brings together reproductions of 38 works from the collection of the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum, where animals are the central theme. The exhibition, curated by José Luis Merino Gorospe, the museum's curator of Ancient Art, offers a journey through different artistic periods, techniques, and languages to reflect on the symbolic and narrative value of animal representations in art.
The presentation of this new edition was attended by Andoni Iturbe, Deputy Minister of Culture and Linguistic Policy of the Basque Government, and Nora Sarasola, Director of Social Work at the BBK Banking Foundation, along with Miguel Zugaza, Director of the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum. The exhibition includes works by artists such as Paul de Vos, Jacob Jordaens, Ignacio Zuloaga, Aurelio Arteta, José Arrue, Francis Bacon, Joseph Beuys, Guerrilla Girls, and Alberto Schommer, among others, demonstrating how the animal figure has served throughout history as a symbol, metaphor, and reflection of social, cultural, and human values.
Since its launch in 2020, La Ruta del Arte BBK / Artearen Ibilbidea has brought the museum's artistic heritage to public spaces through a traveling installation. This is complemented by informative materials in Basque, Spanish, and English, as well as guided tours and cultural mediation activities. The 2026 edition will begin on May 11 in Bilbao and conclude on December 9 in Durango, after visiting municipalities such as Barakaldo, Santurtzi, Getxo, Gernika-Lumo, Basauri, and Mungia.
