According to the Basque Government's Security Department, the incident occurred around 3:00 AM on Wednesday at a residential building in the Indautxu neighborhood, which is currently undergoing construction and has scaffolding in place. A resident of the building contacted the Ertzaintza, reporting a man dressed in work clothes in the building's inner courtyard at that hour.
Several Ertzaintza units responded to the scene and found a supermarket trolley with tools near the scaffolding. Officers learned that the suspect, a 32-year-old man of North African origin, had been surprised moments earlier inside one of the apartments, from which he had fled, and was subsequently located in the building's courtyard.
An inspection of the building revealed that the concierge area had been disturbed and the room where construction materials and tools were stored had been forced open and was empty. One of the officers climbed the scaffolding to the sixth floor, where the alleged perpetrator was found hiding on a balcony.
A set of keys belonging to the residents' association was found on the arrested individual. Based on these findings, he was detained on suspicion of burglary and trespassing. The suspect was taken to police facilities pending judicial proceedings.
