The Governing Board of Bilbao City Council has given the green light to the project for the improvement and renovation of the pergola area in Europa Park, located in the Txurdinaga neighborhood. This initiative aims to comprehensively rehabilitate a 2,570 square meter space, with the goal of enhancing its accessibility and strengthening its use as a recreational area for citizens.
The project involves an investment of 830,072.40 euros (including VAT). The works include, in addition to the pergola's renovation, the removal of existing structures in the central and end zones, which will be replaced by new covered spaces beneath the pergola itself. Furthermore, the metallic structure of the pergola will be revegetated to provide shade. Green areas in the flowerbeds will also be improved, and pedestrian routes will be reorganized to create more accessible paths, adapted for people with reduced mobility.
The project also encompasses the enhancement of resting areas, by adding new urban furniture and creating more comfortable and functional spaces. In the central area, a new ornamental fountain adapted to the space will be installed. Other planned works include the replacement and improvement of pavements, the renovation of public lighting with energy efficiency criteria, the adaptation of green areas and landscaping, the improvement of drainage systems, and the updating of service networks. Once awarded and commenced, the execution period for these works is estimated to be five months.
