La Bien Querida, Rufus T. Firefly, Maika Makovski, and Fernando Alfaro will headline the MAZ Basauri 2026 festival. The event will take place on November 6th and 7th at the Social Antzokia. Tickets will go on sale today, September 24th, at 12:00 PM via the website mazbasauri.com, at the theater's box office, and through the Kutxabank network. Ticket prices will be 12 euros in advance and 15 euros on the day of the concert.
La Bien Querida, the project of Ana Fernandez-Villaverde from Bilbao, is a regular at major summer festivals. They will present their latest album, LBQ (2025). The Madrid-based band Rufus T. Firefly, led by Victor Cabezuelo and Julia Martin-Maestro, will perform their sixth studio album from last year, Todas las cosas buenas. Maika Makovski, a Mallorcan artist, will celebrate her 20-year career with a double live album, and Fernando Alfaro, a composer from bands like Surfin’ Bichos and Chucho, will present his first solo album since 2018, Convento Freak.
Free outdoor events will also take place on November 6th and 7th, featuring Monos, Silkat, and Reeler. Additionally, the Txiki MAZ program will include a DJ set and workshop by Juan Solo, the musical show Ongi etorri paradisura by Perli eta Koxkolo, and a concert by artist Laztana Laztana on Saturday morning.
Furthermore, the third edition of the meeting ‘Emakumeak eta industria musikala’ (Women and the music industry) will be held on November 12th at Marienea Basauriko Emakumeen Etxea (Basauri Women's House). Artists Afrika Bibang and Lova Lois will participate, with the discussion moderated by Myriam Miranda. The event will be free and conducted in Basque.
MAZ Basauri is promoted by the Basauri City Council and, with this 14th edition, continues to solidify the municipality as a musical benchmark.
In other news, the Basauri City Council has begun work to improve accessibility at 13 pedestrian crossings in the municipality, with an investment of 81,000 euros. The work is expected to be completed by early November. Additionally, 40 businesses have joined the ‘Euskaraz barra-barra’ initiative this year, ensuring they have staff who understand Basque.
Improvements to railway infrastructure are also underway at the Bidebieta Renfe station in Basauri. The Basque Government's Minister of Sustainable Mobility, Susana Garcia Chueca, and the Secretary of State for Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Jose Antonio Santano, visited the works on September 21st. An investment of 28 million euros will be made to construct a new passenger building and remodel the tracks.
