Representatives from Zumarraga, alongside social, economic, and institutional agents from Urretxu, Legazpi, Antzuola, and Ezkio-Itsaso, convened in Zumarraga for a new session of the Basque Security Forum. The meeting facilitated a joint analysis of the security situation in the Urola Garaia region, utilizing participatory dynamics to gather diagnoses, experiences, and proposals.
This gathering served as a platform for dialogue and exchange between local institutions and stakeholders, aiming to enhance security in the area. A broad vision of security was promoted, extending beyond policing to include prevention, emergencies, traffic, the natural environment, and other aspects. Key topics discussed included emergency management, cybercrime, violence against women, road safety, drug consumption, and the impact of climate change on the environment.
The meeting saw the participation of the Minister of Security, Bingen Zupiria, and the General Deputy of Gipuzkoa, Eider Mendoza, along with other representatives from the Basque Government's Department of Security, the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council, regional municipalities, Ertzaintza agents, and local police. Agents from the social, educational, and business sectors of the region also contributed, enriching the analysis with diverse perspectives.
Today's session marked the twenty-third meeting of the Basque Security Forum, part of a participatory process being conducted across Euskadi to build a shared diagnosis of security from a comprehensive perspective. The next forum meeting is scheduled for April 21 in Gernika-Lumo.
