The first knockout rounds of the Gipuzkoa Inter-Town Pelota Championship have concluded, with Zegama being the sole team to advance after defeating Antzuola.

The championship, which commenced on the first weekend of May, features both hand pelota and rubber paleta modalities. Zegama is the only town to have successfully navigated the initial elimination round, securing victory against Antzuola. They won the cadet and youth category matches in Zegama, and the same outcome occurred last Sunday in Antzuola, allowing them to progress with a 4-2 aggregate score. In the round of sixteen, they are set to compete against Azkoitia.
Conversely, both Lazkao and Zumarraga have been eliminated from the competition. Lazkao and Amezketak played their return matches at the Joxemiel Barandiaran fronton in Lazkao. Similar to the first leg in Amezketak, the Lazkao team only managed to win the cadet category match, resulting in their elimination from the championship with a 2-4 score.
The Zumarraga team also failed to overcome the first elimination round of the inter-town rubber paleta championship, losing to Tolosa. The first leg matches were held in Zumarraga, where the Zumarraga players won two to one. However, they lost the return leg 2-1, and since Tolosa accumulated more points overall, they have advanced to the next stage.
In the tool modality, Olaberria has made an excellent start to the championship, winning both matches against Azpeitia. In leather paleta, Garrido-Soberón defeated the Azpeitia players 35-32, and in short paleta, Olaran and Naldaiz triumphed 40-29. The return matches will be played next weekend in Azpeitia.
Zaldibia will begin its championship journey next weekend in the round of sixteen, facing Albiztur. Albiztur advanced by overcoming Astigarraga on points difference. The first leg matches will take place at the Mendikute fronton, with the return matches scheduled for May 22 at Zaldibia's Restin.
