The Ordizia Siglo XX team began their promotion playoff for the Basque League with a defeat, losing 35-24 to Baracaldo. This loss was partly attributed to the fact that several key players were unable to perform at their optimal level due to various reasons.
The Ordizia players managed to hold their ground for the first 20 minutes, but the game's dynamic shifted thereafter. They reached halftime with a five-goal deficit, which still offered a glimmer of hope. However, at the start of the second half, the home team pulled away, doubling their lead by the 45th minute and effectively deciding the outcome of the match.
The circumstances leading up to the match played a crucial role, as the Ordizia team arrived with six first-team players unavailable. Additionally, two regular second-team players were also absent, and two other players, who work in hospitality, had very few hours of sleep before the game due to their work commitments.
Despite the initial setback, the team is determined to turn the situation around in the four remaining matches. Nevertheless, the margin for error is slim if they aim to achieve direct promotion to the higher league.
In the youth category, only one women's team is competing in the cup, formed by the merger of two teams that played throughout the season. Last weekend, this combined team defeated Bergara 28-24 in Majori, a match they dominated on the scoreboard. This game marks the beginning of their cup competition, and the club hopes the team will replicate their performance from the Federation Trophy.
Meanwhile, the men's cadet team secured a 30-14 victory over Saieko, benefiting from the opposing team's absences. The Leizea, a second-year women's cadet team, fell 22-20 to Pulpo in Zumaia, despite leading at halftime. The Oiangu, a first-year cadet team, lost 27-21 in Oñati, despite a strong second-half performance where they were superior in the partial score. The Kirkil, also a first-year cadet team, defeated Egia 27-24 in a closely contested match.
In the children's category, the men's team returned from Eibar with a 21-21 draw. The Ordizia team managed to overcome a two-goal deficit from halftime in the second period. Furthermore, the women's team lost in Majori against Saieko, 10-19, with a poor second-half performance being the key factor in the result.
