On this stage, held on June 20th, the hikers began an hour earlier than planned, considering the forecasted heat, the length, and the characteristics of the route. However, they encountered strong winds, rain, and "terrible heat" along the way.
As explained by the Lagun Onak club, the group first ascended the Aitzkorri peak from Otzaurte via San Adrian, enjoying excellent weather until the summit. At the top, however, they faced tremendous wind and rain. Subsequently, the section between Urbia and Andreaitz was completed with clear skies and pleasant temperatures. From that point onwards, heat became the dominant factor during the long trek to Zerain, Mutiloa, and Beasain.
Despite being a "very beautiful" stage, the hikers finished it in ten and a half hours, largely due to the weather conditions.
The penultimate stage of the project, from Beasain to Elosua, is scheduled for after the summer holidays, on September 19th. In total, they will complete a 171-kilometer route in seven stages, starting and finishing in Azpeitia.
Previously, they completed the first stage (Azpeitia-Tolosa) in February, the second (Tolosa-Larraitz) in March, the third (Larraitz-Lizarrusti) in April, and the fourth (Lizarrusti-Otzaurte) in May. The September 19th stage will be the sixth, followed by the final one from Elosua to Azpeitia (25 km) on October 24th.
