The Hegialde neighborhood in Legazpi will commence its festivities this Friday, with organizers encouraging attendees to 'turn off their phones, sing out of tune at the top of their lungs, shout for no reason, and dive into madness' to fully embrace the unique charm of each day.
This year, the intellectual disability collective of Legazpi will be the central figure at the start of the celebrations. The community is invited to sing the Hegialde anthem alongside them. The opening 'chupinazo' (firecracker) is scheduled for 19:00, followed by a pintxo reception. Earlier, at 17:00, Sustraiak Dantza Taldea will present a children's dance festival on Laubide street. At 19:15, a neighborhood tour with 'Primo-Bayo' will take place, encouraging participants to wear the Hegialde charanga uniform: white shirt, suspenders, beret, and colorful socks.
In the evening, at 22:15, a communal dinner ('cena de cuadrillas') will be held on the pedestrian street, where each group must bring and clear their own food. At midnight, the group 'Bide Batez' will provide a romería performance, and from 03:30 until dawn, 'DJ Woolen' will keep the music going.
Saturday is designated as 'Elegant Day,' inviting residents to dress in their finest attire. The day's events include chess matches at 10:30, performances by three music school groups at 11:30, and traditional Basque sports ('herri kirolak') for children at 12:00. A popular communal lunch ('comida popular') will be served at 14:30, featuring the 'arroz a la zamorana' prepared by Cocina de Derecho, with tickets available at various local establishments.
The afternoon will feature the charanga band Trapalata at 16:00. At 18:30, Korosti Dantza will present a dance festival, with the folk association 'La Besana' from San Vicente de Alcántara (Badajoz) as a special guest. The evening will be capped by performances from the renowned orchestra 'Jamaica Show' at 20:00 and again at 00:00.
The festivities will conclude on Sunday. At 10:15, a traditional mass will be held at the Olamendi school. At 11:30, an exhibition of classic and racing cars will take place in the parking areas between Gure Kabia and Goierri. At 12:00, preparations for the San Fermines will begin with 'El torico,' while dulzainero musicians fill the streets and bars with music. At 16:00, the popular 80-meter slide, a hit last year, will return to San Juan street, open to all ages.
At 18:00, the pedestrian street of Laubide will transform into a magical setting with the 'Alice in Wonderland' parade. At 20:00, 'Chuchín Ibáñez' will perform rancheras, and at 23:00, fireworks will mark the grand finale of these anticipated sensational festivities. To whet appetites, dulzainero musicians will liven up the neighborhood's pintxo-pote event this Thursday afternoon.
