Residents of Lazkao are preparing for a weekend marked by culture, tradition, and family entertainment, with the celebration of the Fourth Giants Gathering and the Dantzari Gazteen Topaketa (Young Dancers Meeting). This program, organized as a prelude to the San Prudencio Festivities, will bring together troupes, dance groups, and cinematic proposals designed for audiences of all ages.
The agenda will kick off on Saturday, April 18, with one of the most anticipated moments: the official reception for the Vilassar de Dalt troupe, which will take place at 1:30 PM at the Town Hall. This event will serve as a meeting point between groups and mark the beginning of a weekend where the tradition of giants will take center stage.
In the afternoon, starting at 7:00 PM, the troupes from Lazkao and Vilassar de Dalt will lead a joint parade through the streets of the municipality. This street procession will allow residents and visitors to enjoy these emblematic figures up close, accompanied by music and a festive atmosphere.
Activities will continue on Sunday, April 19, with a comprehensive program. At 10:30 AM, an exhibition of giants will be inaugurated in the TPT square, where these artisanal pieces, part of Basque cultural heritage, can be admired up close. Half an hour later, at 11:00 AM, a new street parade will begin, featuring troupes from various municipalities such as Vilassar de Dalt, Ibarra, Legazpi, Lekeitio, Orereta, and Pasaia, filling the streets with color, music, and tradition.
Sunday's events will conclude with the Dantzari Gazteen Topaketa, a gathering of young dancers that will bring together the groups Lazkaoko Oin-Arin, Ibarrako Allur, and Idiazabalgo Axari. The event will take place at 6:00 PM in Lazkao Txiki Zelaia and will showcase the talent and vitality of new generations in traditional dance.
In addition to cultural and festive activities, cinema will also play a prominent role during the weekend at Areria. Children can enjoy the film Super Mario Galaxy, which will be screened on Saturday at 5:00 PM in 2D format and on Sunday at the same time in 3D. Adults will have the opportunity to watch Laponia in several sessions: Saturday at 7:30 PM and 10:00 PM, Sunday at 7:30 PM, and Monday with a double screening at 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM.
The Town Council has encouraged citizens to actively participate in all scheduled activities, emphasizing the value of such initiatives in strengthening the municipality's cultural life and fostering coexistence among residents and visitors.
