The Urretxu City Council has inaugurated the new Aterpe social center in Iparragirre Square, aiming to enhance services for the elderly, following an investment of 36,115.82 euros.

The Urretxu City Council has officially presented the new Aterpe social center, which has moved to Iparragirre Square, occupying the space previously used by Gazte Bidea. Until now, the center was located in the day center building. The presentation took place during the annual assembly of the pensioners' association, to introduce the new facilities to the public.
The event was attended by the mayor of Urretxu, the Councilor for Public Works, and the head of the Social Welfare department of the City Council. Also present was the person responsible for organizing Aterpe's activities. The event also served to honor an individual who served as president of Aterpe's board of directors for many years and has now stepped down. The mayor publicly thanked their dedication and commitment, as they have promoted and organized numerous activities for the elderly in the municipality for over 20 years.
The association has nearly half a century of history, as the Urretxu pensioners' association was founded in 1978. Since then, Aterpe has been a meeting point to promote the well-being and social life of the elderly, organizing recreational and cultural activities, parties, and gastronomic events. With this relocation and adaptation, Aterpe takes another step to adapt to current needs, without losing its open, close, and community-oriented character.
For the adaptation of the space, the Urretxu City Council has invested 36,115.82 euros, with the aim of improving functionality, accessibility, and comfort. During the presentation, in addition to providing information about the work, the use of the center and the activities organized there were discussed, highlighting the improved offerings.
In the mornings, digitalization courses, yoga, physical exercise, memory sessions, and wellness sessions are offered. In the afternoons, leisure activities such as card games and bingo are organized. Currently, 158 people regularly participate in the activities organized at the Aterpe center, thanks to the collaboration between the Urretxu City Council and the users. Users have expressed a high level of satisfaction, as they learn, strengthen relationships, and consequently improve their quality of life at Aterpe.

"It helps strengthen the community-based care model: it promotes interpersonal relationships, prevents unwanted loneliness, and fosters integral well-being."
