With the arrival of spring, the Goierri region presents itself as an attractive destination to enjoy nature, gastronomy, and culture, just 45 minutes from Vitoria.

Located in the heart of rural Euskadi, Goierri is an ideal destination to disconnect and enjoy the natural environment in spring. This region offers a variety of activities, highlighting the Idiazabal Cheese Fair and the Ordizia market, as well as hiking options and visits to historic towns.
The Ordizia market, held every Wednesday since 1512, is the most important in the Basque Country. Here, seasonal products such as vegetables, fruits, legumes, cider, and txakoli can be found. The market takes place in the town square, among imposing columns, and allows direct interaction with producers. Additionally, the D'Elikatuz Interpretation Center is undergoing renovation and will reopen in summer, offering new perspectives on nutrition in Goierri.
The Idiazabal Cheese Fair, scheduled for May 2nd and 3rd, is one of the main gastronomic treasures of the region. At this event, shepherds present the fruits of their winter labor in the form of new cheeses. Sixteen cheesemakers from all over Euskal Herria and 8 international cheesemakers will gather to share experiences and products, as part of the European Cheese Route promoted by the Idiazabal City Council. In addition to cheese, the fair includes curd-making workshops, giant parades, and mythological games.
For nature lovers, Goierri offers numerous hiking trails, as well as orientation games on the greenways of Lizarrusti, Segura, and Zegama. Furthermore, the iron mines of Zerain, known as the iron mountain, are an important testimony to the Basque mining tradition since the 11th century. Gastronomic tourism also has its place, with visits to local cheesemakers to learn about the production and tasting of Idiazabal cheese alongside the shepherds.
The region also boasts medieval towns such as Segura, which has a well-preserved old quarter and was a crucial passage point between Castile and France. Goierri, located between the Aralar and Aizkorri-Aratz Natural Parks, offers a wide range of accommodations, from rural houses to hotels, to enjoy an unforgettable spring getaway.
