The thirteenth edition of the Goierri Jazz Festival starts today, July 1st, in Ordizia and will continue until Saturday. The initiative aims to bring jazz music closer to the citizens of Goierri and surrounding valleys, showcasing the genre's richness and diversity.
As the organizers have announced, this year's program will feature «high-quality and diverse guests». They have stated that the list of musicians who have participated over the years demonstrates the quality of the work done and the event's reception, with bringing high-caliber artists and offering unique experiences to the public always being one of their main goals.
This year's program will kick off today with a concert-talk by Dj Makala at the Sugaar bar, at 9:00 PM. Mikel Unzurrunzaga from Zarautz will review his artistic career.
On Thursday, July 2nd, the Madrid-based Afro-Peruvian jazz trio Esencia Ternaria will perform at the Town Hall arcades at 10:00 PM. The group blends the sonic richness of the Peruvian coast with contemporary improvisation.
Friday will bring two performances to the Main Square: at 8:30 PM, the Aretxabaleta-based music project NHIL, featuring organic pop with soul and R&B influences; and at 11:00 PM, Swiss singer, composer, and pianist Lea Maria Fries, who blends contemporary jazz, soul, and spoken word.
On Saturday, the final day of the festival, performances will take place in the Main Square. At 7:00 PM, the Zirriborro Jazz Band, directed by Edorta de Pedro, will present their set dedicated to the Goierri Music Schools. Following that, at 8:30 PM, the Barcelona-based brass band Hip Horn Brass Collective will fuse New Orleans tradition with hip hop, funk, and contemporary jazz. The festival will conclude with Luxembourgish trumpeter Daniel Migliosi, one of the most interesting names of the new European jazz generation, at 11:00 PM.
