Txakoli enthusiasts have an important date this coming Saturday in Azpeitia. This year marks the ninth edition of the Getariako Txakoli Day, which will feature a significant novelty: it will take place in Sanjuandegi, at the Jose Antonio Agirre square, alongside the local festivities. In previous years, the event was held in the Perez Arregi square, but this year it has been decided to combine both events, as it makes more sense than dividing the celebration across two points in the town, according to Mikel Odriozola, head of the Azpeitia City Council's festival committee.
Odriozola highlighted that it is a well-established event in Azpeitia, creating a "great atmosphere" every year. They expect the same this year, as attendees will have the opportunity to taste wines from eight wineries with the Getariako Txakolina Designation of Origin between 12:30 PM and 2:30 PM. For six euros, participants can purchase a glass and five tasting tokens.
Additionally, to complement the wine, cheese pintxos from Premietxeberri baserria and small bites of solomillo from Eusko Label will also be available for 2.5 euros. The Azpeitia Association for Leisure for the Sick and Disabled will be responsible for distributing these pintxos. During the two-hour tasting period, members of the group Bankako Menditarrak will provide musical entertainment.
Txakolis from the following wineries will be available for tasting: Aizpurua, Akarregi Txiki, Arregi, Basa Lore, Gaintza, Gañeta, Rezabal, and Txomin Etxaniz. The event is organized by the Azpeitia City Council and the Getariako Txakolina Denomination of Origin association.
