The Urrelur Museum of Minerals and Fossils in Urretxu has revamped its educational offerings, blending interactive digital learning with practical science workshops to enrich visitor experience and spark curiosity.

The museum, which attracts thousands of visitors from across the Basque Country annually, continuously strives to update and enhance its content. During the presentation event, museum officials unveiled a new initiative combining digital learning and adventure, activities organized around Museums Day, and details of the monographic exhibition for the Mineralogy and Paleontology Week in November.
The new digital game, titled Bizi Urrelur abentura! (Live the Urrelur Adventure!), is available on the Urretxu.eus website and is primarily aimed at Primary Education students, though it is also engaging for the general public. The goal is to provide new pedagogical resources to deepen learning before and after museum visits, fostering curiosity and encouraging attendance. The Urretxu City Council will launch a communication campaign at the start of the academic year to promote these new digital contents.

"Recent years' experience has shown that many visitors are unclear about which museum they are visiting or where they are located. Therefore, the proposed initiative aims to open doors for people to get to know the museum beforehand."

Additionally, on May 21st, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, science sessions will be held in conjunction with Museums Day, targeting children aged 6 to 12 years. These sessions will highlight the contributions of women scientists in chemistry through practical and fun experiments. Participants will engage in three sessions: mobile sand, fire in hand, and artificial snow. Registrations will open tomorrow via the email address urrelur@urretxu.eus.
Furthermore, a Mineralogy and Paleontology excursion has been organized to Lorara and Las Merindades in Burgos, on the 16th of the month. All spots for this excursion are filled, with 38 participants. It has been announced that iron will be the main focus of the monographic exhibition during the autumn Mineralogy and Paleontology Week, showcasing works by artists who work with iron and wood.
