Eight participants in Zumarraga's Comprehensive Training and Employment Project received their diplomas today and will begin working as urban maintenance operators for the City Council.

Zumarraga's Comprehensive Employment Project has successfully integrated eight new individuals into the workforce. This initiative aims to address the municipality's unemployment rate and provide job opportunities for those with lower qualifications. The diploma ceremony was attended by Mikel Torres, Vice-Lehendakari and Minister of Economy, Labour, and Employment of the Basque Government; Arantxa Niño, Director of Employment and Training at Lanbide; and Mikel Serrano, Mayor of Zumarraga.

This project responds to the social and economic reality of Zumarraga, a municipality in transformation facing challenges such as demographic aging, the need for generational replacement, and an unemployment rate higher than the average for Gipuzkoa and the Basque Autonomous Community.

The event took place at the municipal brigade's warehouse and headquarters in the Artiz neighborhood. The project combines technical training, personalized support, and real work experience. Developed in collaboration with UGLE Eskola, UGGASA, and the Integral Steel Industry Workers' Foundation, it trains participants in masonry work, offering them the opportunity to join the municipal brigade for six months.
This marks the fourth edition of the project, which has already benefited 32 individuals, enhancing their skills and employability. The Basque Government, through Lanbide, has allocated 510,500 euros to the program over the past four years, while Zumarraga City Council has contributed 83,936 euros. Mayor Mikel Serrano emphasized the project's consolidation as an effective tool for improving employment opportunities in the municipality.

"The evaluation of this initiative is very positive, as it allows progress towards a dual objective: improving job opportunities for those who need them most and helping sectors with higher demand to have better-prepared professionals."

Mikel Serrano · Mayor of Zumarraga
Vice-Lehendakari Mikel Torres praised Zumarraga's role as a benchmark in developing employability projects and promoting socio-labor inclusion. Additionally, a new 'Employment' section has been added to the Zumarraga Berrikusi application to facilitate citizens' access to information on job opportunities.
