EH Bildu proposes that the Aldiri2 sports facility become part of a broader project, utilizing the Pagoeta area and seeking new funding avenues.

EH Bildu has shared its opinion on the new Aldiri2 sports facility project through a press release. The coalition argues that both municipalities, Urretxu and Zumarraga, should collaborate on sports infrastructure and believes the Pagoeta area is the most strategically suitable location to create a sports ecosystem that addresses the needs of both towns.
Reminding that 16 months have passed since the project's presentation, EH Bildu emphasizes the necessity of undertaking a medium and long-term reflection on the missing sports infrastructure between the two municipalities. The group anticipates that the current Aldiri2 project, as proposed by the governing team, will not be sufficient to meet the sports demands of both municipalities.
Therefore, EH Bildu believes the project should remain open to creating a more ambitious sports ecosystem shared with Zumarraga, by seeking funding from supra-municipal organizations and responding to current user needs.
The Aldiri2 project has a budget exceeding 6.5 million euros, but the Urretxu City Council will have to face this investment, as the project has not met the technical conditions required to obtain funding from the New Bauhaus program promoted by the European Commission. This will significantly condition the council's investment capacity in the coming years, they have stated.
EH Bildu reiterates its proposal from 2023: although the Aldiri2 project will bring improvements in sports infrastructure, a comprehensive prior diagnosis of the needs of both municipalities is essential. To this end, they propose launching a participatory process involving sports stakeholders, municipal technicians, and the general public, as it represents an excellent opportunity for both municipalities to collaborate in creating an ambitious sports infrastructure ecosystem in the Pagoeta area.
