The A youth team of Durangoko Cultural has concluded an excellent season by winning the Basque Cup. In the final played this weekend at Tabira, they defeated Athletic B in a penalty shootout, after the match ended 2-2. Goalkeeper Martin Urien played a particularly significant role, saving a penalty during extra time and two more in the shootout.
The white-and-blue team has thus reaffirmed the level shown throughout the season. They won the league dominantly with 73 points (21 wins, 10 draws, and three losses), and in the Basque Cup, they have also overcome their opponents one after another: they defeated Beasain 3-1 in the round of 16, Romo 3-2 in the quarter-finals, and Leioa 1-2 in the semi-finals.
In the grand final, Cultural secured a 2-0 lead in the first half, but Athletic B managed to equalize the score in the second. In the final stretch, Urien's skill was essential to secure the cup.
