Representatives from Azpeitia and Goierri have achieved an excellent medal haul at the Spanish Mountain Running Championships, organized by the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA) in the Palencia area.

Over the weekend, a runner from the Xeye team and another from the Goierri Garaia team achieved remarkable results in the veteran categories, accumulating a total of four medals, including a gold, a silver, and two bronzes.
The runner competing in the over-60s category won one gold and one silver medal. On Saturday, he triumphed in the vertical kilometer race held in the town of Brañosera, a race affected by adverse weather conditions. Due to a storm, the course had to be shortened, and the first three runners finished with a difference of barely six seconds.
The following day, the same runner also decided to compete in the mountain race held in Aguilar de Campoo. After completing two laps of a demanding eight-kilometer course, he secured second place, finishing one minute and six seconds behind the winner. The athlete stated that the shortening of the previous day's race had a positive effect on his performance, allowing him to achieve unexpected results.
Meanwhile, the runner from the Goierri Garaia team, competing in the over-40s category, also had an exceptional weekend. He participated in both events and reached the podium in both, finishing in third place and returning home with two bronze medals.
