The Department of Sustainability of the Gipuzkoa Foral Council has announced the total completion of the lighting works for the bicycle path connecting Alegia and Itsasondo. The final phase, corresponding to the section between Legorreta and Itsasondo, was inaugurated today, bringing all works to a close.
This project has implemented a solar-powered lighting system, which has significantly improved the safety and accessibility of the bicycle path linking Legorreta and Itsasondo. As highlighted by the Deputy for Sustainability, this technology helps reduce environmental impact and light pollution.
The first phase of the works was carried out between Alegia and Ikaztegieta in 2024, illuminating 1.77 kilometers with 59 streetlights. In 2025, it was the turn of the Ikaztegieta-Legorreta section, adding 3.27 kilometers and 53 streetlights. Finally, in 2026, the 1,730-meter section between Legorreta and Itsasondo has been completed, with the installation of 57 new solar panels. The investment for this phase amounted to 145,415.94 euros.
In total, the project has illuminated 6.77 kilometers of bicycle path, installing 169 solar lights with a total investment of 437,750.23 euros. The streetlights incorporate 10 W LED technology and are programmable to optimize energy consumption.
