The VIII Jakitea awards were presented yesterday at the Zabala cider house in Aduna. The award was presented to Iñigo Urkiola by Xabier Zabaleta, president of the Jakitea association, and Arantxa Arrizabalaga from the Kattalin restaurant in Beasain.
In addition to this main award, the Jakitea association made nine other recognitions. Among them, Casa Garras (Karrantza, Bizkaia) received the 0 kilometer/Eusko Label award, the Bordatxo restaurant (Usurbil, Gipuzkoa) the award for best restaurant, and Balerdipeko Erleak (Tolosaldea, Gipuzkoa) the award for local producer.
Furthermore, the Artola tavern (Donostia, Gipuzkoa) received the award for best traditional pintxo for its Donostiarra pintxo, and the restaurant Chez Mattin (Ciboure, Lapurdi) the award for traditional dish. The Biko tavern-restaurant (Tolosa, Gipuzkoa) was recognized for its promotion of the Basque language.
Regarding overall career, several recognitions were made: Amaia Portuzar (Ganbara tavern, Donostia), Begoña and Belen Plazaola (Arrate restaurant, Leintz-Gatzaga), and Pili Bereziartu (Irubide restaurant, Hernani) received awards. Juan Carlos Beltran (Xixario restaurant, Orio) was highlighted for local sourcing, and Pepe Barrena received the award for gastronomic journalism.
