TM Telleria, headquartered in Urretxu (Gipuzkoa), is a leading European company in the machining of mechanical components for hydroelectric power plants, exporting 80% of its output. They advocate for the controlled application of artificial intelligence and have received support from the Basque Government's industrial cybersecurity program, managed by SPRI, to enhance digital security within Basque companies.
Established in 1976 in the Brinkola neighborhood of Legazpi, the company initially focused on machining services for the local market. Its operations gradually expanded, leading to a relocation to Zumarraga in 1986, where it began machining bearings for GSB Forja. As production capacity grew, the company acquired additional facilities.
From 2005 onwards, the company's strategy underwent a significant transformation, moving beyond the domestic market. As explained by manager Jose Luis Romero and administration manager Amaia Telleria, a challenge faced with a client involved in casting components for hydroelectric plants presented new opportunities. Today, 90% of their business is dedicated to this sector, making TM Telleria a global supplier to the top three engineering firms in the hydroelectric field, ranking among the top 10 European suppliers.
In the last decade, the company took a major step to consolidate its operations by relocating its facilities from Zumarraga to an industrial site in Urretxu. Following an agreement signed in 2018, decontamination and demolition work was undertaken amidst the pandemic and the raw materials crisis. Since last autumn, a significant portion of the company's activities has been centralized at the new Urretxu headquarters, expanding its footprint from 3,600 m² to 6,900 m², allowing for greater operational efficiency and future growth.
TM Telleria's core business is machining, providing comprehensive solutions to clients, from raw material selection and testing to final machining. They also offer services such as heat treatment and painting through subcontracting. The breakdown of their client sectors is: hydroelectric power plants (90%), shipbuilding (6%), and automotive (4%).
The company employs approximately 50 people and achieves an annual turnover of 10 million euros, with a target of reaching 15 million in the coming years. Exports account for 80% of their business, primarily directed towards France, Germany, Finland, the USA, and Canada.
Future challenges include completing the relocation process, enhancing data analysis for decision-making, implementing artificial intelligence in a controlled manner, and continuing to strengthen the hydroelectric, naval, and aeronautical markets. They are also committed to maintaining their international presence and advancing the project's sustainability across economic, social, and environmental dimensions.
