This significant capital injection will fuel the company's growth, with a portion of the funding directed towards its European headquarters in the Gipuzkoan capital. Fernando González-Zalba, general director of Quantum Motion's European office, stated that the Donostia facility employs a team of approximately fifty professionals.
The UK-based company explained that its core activity focuses on manufacturing silicon-based quantum computers. This technology offers remarkable advantages, including the ability to reduce energy consumption by 1,000 times compared to traditional computers. This is strategically crucial given the proliferation of data centers and the rise of artificial intelligence.
Furthermore, quantum computers can reduce their cost and space requirements by 100 times. Quantum Motion highlighted its collaboration with CIC nanoGUNE, emphasizing their contributions in applying the latest nanoscientific knowledge.
In January of last year, Jams Palles-Dimmock, the general director of the British firm, informed Mikel Jauregi, the Basque Minister of Industry, of their intention to open their first European Union headquarters in Donostia. This establishment will be located in the building constructed by CIC nanoGUNE in the Ibaeta neighborhood, an area where IBM's quantum computer is already operational.
