The Zelatun pass, located on the southern slope of Mount Ernio at an altitude of 841 meters, will host the official opening ceremony for Gipuzkoa's pastures this Friday, as announced by the Foral Council. It is anticipated that 637 livestock farmers will move 42,841 head of cattle to the mountain pastures of the territory, taking advantage of the summer season.
In this regard, the Foral Executive, in conjunction with the Errezil City Council, has organized a public event to celebrate this annual milestone. In 2025, the event took place in Berastegi.
The ceremony will commence at 11:30 AM with a welcome and the official opening of the pastures. Following this, some livestock will symbolically enact the ascent to the high pastures. Afterwards, there will be a gathering with the shepherds and a traditional hamaiketako (mid-morning snack), with the event expected to conclude around 1:00 PM.
Given the meeting point's location, it is recommended to park in the Iturriotz parking areas or in the Trintxera de Errezil area and walk up, as vehicle access to the pass will be limited.
