Donostia Mayor Jon Insausti has sent a letter to the board of trustees of the Kutxa Foundation, requesting that the Eureka! Science Museum in Miramon remain open until a solid alternative is established.

The Kutxa Foundation is set to decide the future of the Eureka! Science Museum in Miramon tomorrow. As announced two weeks ago, the museum is scheduled for permanent closure on June 30. In response, Jon Insausti, the Mayor of Donostia, has sent a letter to the foundation's board of trustees, on behalf of the city council, urging them to “reconsider” the closure.

"Our duty is to listen to the concerns of the people of Donostia, and they do not agree with the closure of the Eureka! science museum. What we ask is that, until there is a solid alternative, Eureka remains open. Because Donostia is a city of science. The museum must remain open to bring science closer to people and continue with that dissemination."

Jon Insausti · Mayor of Donostia
Insausti stated that citizens do not support the museum's closure and that if Donostia wishes to remain a city of science, knowledge, and innovation, it requires spaces for public outreach like Eureka!. He emphasized the importance of keeping the museum open for this reason.

"I have no doubt that the Kutxa Foundation will make the best decision; they have always shown themselves to be integrated into our society."

Jon Insausti · Mayor of Donostia
The Mayor expressed confidence that the Kutxa Foundation will make the most appropriate decision, given its consistent involvement in society.
