The board of trustees of Kutxa Fundazioa will approve tomorrow a two-year postponement of the definitive closure of Eureka! Zientzia Museoa in Donostia, which was previously announced for June.

The board of trustees of Kutxa Fundazioa will approve tomorrow the two-year postponement of the definitive closure of Eureka! Zientzia Museoa. As reported by Diario Vasco, during tomorrow's meeting, the proposal to extend the activities of the Kutxaespacio in Miramon for two years will be supported by votes in favor from representatives of EH Bildu, PSE, and PNV on the board.
This decision comes just days after the entity itself confirmed that the Miramon science center would close its doors this June. This postponement, which extends the museum's life until June 2028, is a result of the social and scientific pressure that has mounted over the past two weeks.

It cannot replace it by any means.

The campaign launched on the 'change.org' platform by members of the Basque scientific community, which has already gathered nearly 14,000 signatures, urged institutions to intervene to prevent Euskadi from being left “without its science museum.” The planned closure for June had generated deep concern, not only due to the loss of 8,000 square meters of exhibition space but also the immediate disappearance of services without direct replacement, such as the planetarium, astronomical observatory, and successful summer camps.
Yesterday, the Mayor of San Sebastián, Jon Insausti, sent a letter to the president of the Kutxa Foundation's board of trustees, Rafael Amasorrain, requesting that “all necessary measures be taken to keep Eureka! open,” while also demanding that its continuity be guaranteed, “at least, until the city has a project of similar ambition and scope, such as the one planned in Tabakalera -Atenea-.”
In this regard, voices from the Basque scientific community opposing the closure of the former Kutxaespacio have denounced in recent days that Atenea, the new science dissemination space that Kutxa Fundazioa projected in Tabakalera for this year but whose opening will be delayed until 2027, “will have significantly smaller dimensions than those currently held by Eureka!”.
