The Gipuzkoa Council for the Elderly is calling for more inclusive and accessible public transport, particularly for older individuals, requesting enhancements to the telephone purchasing service and payment options with the Mugi card.

The Provincial Council recognizes initiatives that help build a more connected, cohesive, and livable Gipuzkoa through this award. Council members have emphasized that the recognition is not just for the council of elders but for all elderly individuals who have lacked travel opportunities due to the digital divide. Indeed, they have indicated that the telephone purchasing service has largely addressed this issue.
On the path to achieving these improvements, they have called for public participation and urged citizens to share their proposals to ensure more sustainable and inclusive public transport in the future, both in Arrasate and throughout Gipuzkoa.

"Having to pay with a Visa card is a barrier for elderly citizens, and not so elderly ones. Therefore, what we need to achieve is that, when you buy the ticket, you can pay with the Mugi card."

Deputy of Mobility, Tourism, and Spatial Planning · Azahara Dominguez
Azahara Dominguez, Deputy of Mobility, Tourism, and Spatial Planning, acknowledged that their proposals have been well-received and that collaboration will continue. While the telephone purchasing service is a step forward, they see at least one significant issue that still needs improvement. They pointed out that the requirement to pay with a Visa card is a barrier and that the ability to pay with the Mugi card must be achieved.
Furthermore, improving and making the steps or level differences on buses and at stops more accessible is another request the council will make to the Provincial Council. Given the good relationship between the two institutions, they expect to achieve this goal as well.
