The meteorological agency Euskalmet has activated an orange alert for extreme heat in the interior of Gipuzkoa for Monday, with thermometers potentially hitting 40 degrees. A yellow alert is in place for the coast, where temperatures are expected to reach 33 degrees.
The heat spike will begin on Sunday, with a significant rise compared to Saturday. In regions such as Goierri or Alto Deba, temperatures are expected to reach 33 degrees, while the coast will see highs of around 30 degrees.
According to Aemet, this weather pattern is caused by a thermal ridge combined with a DANA located west of the Iberian Peninsula. This configuration promotes atmospheric stability, light winds, and the spread of a very dry and warm air mass.
The heat is expected to persist until at least Tuesday. In Donostia, temperatures will hover around 30 degrees, while inland towns such as Arrasate, Oñati, or Bergara could see highs of up to 37 degrees.
