The Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa anticipates savings of approximately 26 million euros annually following the reform of the dependency funding system, as the State will assume 50% of the costs from July 1st.

The financing structure for dependency care is set to change. Currently, the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa covers the majority of expenses, but the state contribution will rise from 15% to 50%. This adjustment will allow the provincial institution to reallocate significant budgetary resources.
Provincial authorities clarify that this additional funding is not linked to an increase in benefit amounts, as Gipuzkoa already raised these levels in 2023. Currently, aid for hiring professional caregivers can reach 1,076 euros per month, which is higher than in other regions.
The provincial government is waiting for the final details of the royal decree-law to determine how the changes will be implemented under the special provincial tax regime. They emphasize the need to analyze the new funding modules before finalizing calculations on the budgetary impact.
