She decided to get her driving license around the age of 60, and considers it one of the best decisions she has ever made. Initially, she relied on her husband and was bound by schedules, especially when they lived in Eibar. She was finally encouraged to pursue it after a friend's advice and the limitations of relying on buses.
The idea of having a license was always in the back of her mind, but she postponed it for various reasons: pregnancy, other responsibilities, and difficulty concentrating. She saw an ideal opportunity when her daughter started at the Ikastola (school) and began studying, eventually learning to drive.
She emphasizes that having a driving license has given her immense independence. Now, she can go to the farmhouse, be with her children, and transport them without being dependent on bus schedules. She states it has been the best thing she has done.
She encourages others to learn to drive without fear. If they don't succeed on the first attempt, they will on the second or third, or as she did. Although she passed the theory test on her first try, the practical part was more challenging. However, she has continued driving and frequently uses the car to visit relatives, go shopping, and for other errands, believing it is essential, especially for those living in rural areas.
She has also undertaken longer journeys, such as to San Sebastián and even to Belgium to watch her professional cyclist nephew's races. She recounts driving during those experiences without any scares or nervousness, emphasizing that the key is to drive at one's own pace.
She enjoys listening to the radio while driving, finding it a good travel companion. Currently, she often listens to the music her nephews prefer. She advises caution while driving, especially when sharing the road with cyclists and other vehicles.
