The natural surroundings of Ardanbideta in Legazpi, specifically the fields and forests near the Kimu-Berri shelter, will be the venue this Sunday morning for the main Basque Country Archery Championship. The competition has been organized by the Basque Hunting Federation and hunters from Legazpi, with a scheduled start time of 09:00.
The championship will feature top hunters from Gipuzkoa, Araba, and Bizkaia, who qualified for the Basque Country championship through their respective provincial competitions. Any federated hunter can also participate, although without the chance to win the overall title. Organizers anticipate the participation of around 25 hunters.
The competition will be divided into two categories: compound bow and traditional bow. In both categories, participants will need to complete the routes set by the organizers. The winner will be determined by the total score based on successful shots at the targets along the course.
As a qualifying event for the Basque Country championship, the Gipuzkoa championship was also held in Legazpi three weeks ago. Fifteen hunters competed with compound bows, with Andoni Osa taking the win, followed by Iraitz Gutierrez and Mikel Gorrotxategi. In the traditional bow category, five hunters competed, and the title was secured by Mikel Aranzabal, with Ignacio Noguera and Joseba Gezalaga placing second and third.
In addition to the 20 hunters who competed for the Gipuzkoa titles, four hunters from Bizkaia also participated, although they were outside the main competition. At the end of the event, all participants gathered for a group photograph.
