Donostia hosts the Arizmendiarrieta Awards, celebrating the humanist business model

Donostia was the venue today for the Arizmendiarrieta Awards Gipuzkoa 2026, honoring organizations that promote a humanist and participatory business model.

Bellota Herramientas, the Biogipuzkoa Health Research Institute, and Fundación Hurkoa were the awarded entities in this edition. These awards recognize the Inclusive Participatory Business Model (MIPE), which integrates business competitiveness and human development.
The event, organized by the Arizmendiarrieta Kristau Fundazioa and the Association of Directors and Professionals of Euskadi (Adype), gathered institutional, business, and social representatives at the Foro Hall of the University of Deusto. The opening was led by the Vice-Rector of the San Sebastián Campus, Mari Jose Aranguren, and the closing remarks were given by the Provincial Deputy for Economic Promotion and Strategic Projects, Unai Andueza.
During the ceremony, HumaniSare, the Arizmendiarrieta Club of the Humanist Enterprise, was presented. This new initiative aims to strengthen the role of companies as agents of social transformation. Juan Manuel Sinde, president of the Arizmendiarrieta Kristau Fundazioa, emphasized, «with this new initiative, we aim to contribute to our Foundation's mission: to humanize business to humanize society».

Companies with a collective purpose and strong internal cohesion have a greater capacity to overcome difficulties.

Following this, a panel discussion titled «Humanist values in the 21st-century company» was held, moderated by journalist Aloña Velasco, with participation from Patxi Agirre (Gautena), Josu Goñi (Lanik), and Pablo Núñez (KL katealegaia), all of whom were award recipients in the previous edition.
The jury's verdict was read by Cristina Murillo, deputy general director of GAIA, the Association of Knowledge and Technology Industries of Euskadi, followed by the presentation of awards recognizing advanced participatory management models.
Bellota Herramientas, which designs, manufactures, and markets hand tools and accessories worldwide, is noted for its territorial involvement and a people-centered strategy. Its president, Pablo Izeta, received the award from the provincial deputy Unai Andueza.
The Biogipuzkoa Health Research Institute, a leading health research and innovation center for the territory of Gipuzkoa, was awarded for its management model based on participation and transparency. Scientific Director Itziar Vergara received the award from Lander Rubio, president of Adype.
Fundación Hurkoa, established to care for the elderly or mentally ill, received the award for its participatory and ethical management model. Its president, Marta Álvarez de Arcaya, accepted the award from Juan Manuel Sinde, president of the Fundación Arizmendiarrieta.
The event was supported by the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, the University of Deusto, the Chamber of Commerce of Gipuzkoa, El Diario Vasco, and Estrategia Empresarial.
