The Minister of Education, Begoña Pedrosa, accompanied by the Mayor of Legutio, Nerea Bengoa, and guided by the director, Maider Etxeberria, visited CEIP Garazi yesterday following the renovation works. The doors were also opened to students' families to show them the improvements made.
“"We have managed to redistribute and expand the spaces in the center."
With this rehabilitation, a more functional environment has been created, ensuring accessibility to all spaces, both interior and exterior, and improving connections between different areas. The three-story building now integrates more versatile and connected spaces. The ground floor houses the administration area, early childhood education spaces, and the area for the educational community, with a direct connection to the patios. The upper floor contains the Primary classrooms and common areas: library, computer room, music room, and multi-purpose rooms.
Other significant improvements include the rehabilitation of the south facade with solar protection systems and thermal insulation, as well as the complete replacement of the carpentry. The intervention, carried out from August 2024 to January 2026, required an investment of 2,689,796 euros and covered an area of 1,630 square meters.
Furthermore, the Mayor of Legutio explained that in January 2025, they saw an opportunity to implement four energy efficiency actions to improve the energy rating. These interventions, complementary to those of the Basque Government, have allowed for the incorporation of more efficient systems such as a new boiler, a heat pump for underfloor heating, thermostatic valves to regulate classroom temperature, and roof insulation, with an investment of 132,192 euros made by the City Council.
CEIP Garazi is a public school that enrolls nearly 200 Infant and Primary students across two lines. The center serves families from Legutio and its surrounding area.
