Vocational Training (FP) in Euskadi is experiencing a golden age, with a record offer of nearly 75,000 places for the upcoming academic year and a fully consolidated dual modality. In this context, the Welding and Boilermaking cycle emerges as one of the most promising training programs, thanks to high industrial demand and an employment rate approaching 100%, according to sources from the Maristak Zalla center.
Contrary to what its name might suggest, boilermaking is not related to boilers. A teacher from the cycle clarifies that this is a common misconception: boilermaking encompasses the manufacturing of metal structures, tanks, pipes, and parts for machinery. Essentially, the trade involves "shaping a sheet metal" to create all kinds of industrial components.
“"It is a sector where it is quite difficult to find qualified professionals, which leads to very well-paid jobs."
The demand for these profiles is so high that companies directly contact training centers. Career opportunities extend beyond being a welder or boilermaker. Graduates can work as industrial pipefitters, in machinery and facility maintenance, or in sectors with significant weight in the Basque Country, such as foundries, which require profiles with training in the metal field.
Although traditionally considered hard work, the reality has changed. Dangers exist, but today work is carried out with very strict safety measures, and many operations have been automated. In fact, the first module students receive is on occupational risk prevention.

No prior experience is required to access this training, only "interest in manual work" and a desire to learn. Furthermore, the cycle allows for continued study with the higher degree in Metal Constructions, which the Maristak Zalla center will offer next academic year to train future leaders in project design, planning, and management. The pre-registration period is already open, presenting an opportunity for both young people seeking their vocation and professionals looking to retrain. According to data from the Basque Government, 90% of FP students find employment upon completing their studies.
