The Ertzaintza and the municipal police forces of the Bizkaia region of Enkarterri, specifically those from Güeñes, Balmaseda, and Zalla, have decided to strengthen their collaboration. To this end, they will carry out joint controls with the aim of increasing security in the area.
According to the Department of Security of the Basque Government, Enkarterri is one of the safest regions in Bizkaia, with a crime rate 7.67 points below the average for municipalities in the territory. They emphasized that these figures are the result of coordinated work between the Balmaseda ertzain-etxea and the local police forces.
“"These data are the result of the coordinated work carried out by the Balmaseda ertzain-etxea together with the local police forces of Enkarterri."
The local police forces in the demarcation weekly inform the Balmaseda ertzain-etxea about their planned activities, thus coordinating the type of control, its location, and duration. These controls can vary, including breathalyzer tests, document checks, or the prevention of robberies in homes and industrial estates.
In this regard, the police forces have sought to take "another step" in their collaboration and will begin to conduct joint controls, as agreed in a recent meeting between the leadership of the Balmaseda ertzain-etxea and the local police forces of Zalla, Güeñes, and Balmaseda. This decision has the approval of the mayors of the municipalities.
Furthermore, the Directorate of Ports, Maritime Affairs and Coastline of the Basque Government has reinforced its commitment to small coastal municipalities such as Mundaka, Elantxobe, and Ea, through a series of actions and investments to improve services, infrastructure, and usage conditions during the summer season. These municipalities, lacking beaches, require specific attention to ensure public spaces are adequate, safe, and equipped with basic services for both residents and visitors.
