Over 70 Paddlers Compete in Basque Country Marathon Kayaking Championship in Zumaia

The Basque Country Marathon Kayaking Championship was held today in Zumaia, with more than 70 paddlers participating, starting from the maritime sports center.

The Basque Country Marathon Kayaking Championship was held today in Zumaia, with over 70 paddlers participating. The competition, which started from the maritime sports center, began an hour earlier than scheduled due to the hot weather. Local paddlers have secured multiple medals in this event.
The athletes competing in the event, organized by the Itxas Gain club, received encouragement from numerous fans. Spectators, in turn, had the opportunity to enjoy the refreshment area set up by the local kayaking club.
The championship was contested by athletes from 10 clubs, across the cadet, junior, senior, and veteran categories. Cadets completed a 14-kilometer distance with three portages; juniors and veterans, 17 kilometers with three portages; and seniors, meanwhile, covered 20 kilometers with four portages.
The start, finish, and portages were conducted in front of the maritime sports center. Buoys for the turns were placed in the vicinity of Bedua, at the Txomin Agirre dock, and 300 meters from the train bridge.

Gold medals were won by Amaia Aizpurua in the cadet category, Irati Osa in senior, the pair formed by Asier Aizpurua and Maite Etxabe (in the mixed senior category), Haritz Aizpurua and Xabat Bergarra (in the men's K2 senior category), Eider Amundarain (in the 20-kilometer individual race), the pair of Vicente Royo and Iñigo Lois (in veterans), and veterans Oier Aizpurua and Eñaut Aizpurua.
