The towns of Gorozika (Muxika), Murueta, and Nabarniz will be celebrating their Andra Mari festivals in the upcoming days. A festive atmosphere is guaranteed from neighborhood to neighborhood, and the schedule will be non-stop.
In Gorozika, the festivities will commence today, September 4th, with the firing of the chupinazo (inaugural rocket), followed by a mus tournament. Tomorrow, September 5th, the day will begin with cesta punta and hand-pelota matches, after which neighbors will gather for a communal meal. Trikitilaris (traditional Basque musicians) and fireworks will also liven up the day. On Sunday, September 6th, children's games will take center stage, and on the actual Andra Mari day, September 8th, there will be an all-day program starting with a mass and a mid-morning snack, followed by a brisca (card game) tournament in the afternoon.
In Nabarniz, six days of festivities have been organized. They will kick off on Monday with the proclamation at 7:30 PM, followed by a codfish feast. The next day, Tuesday, there will be a program for children, youth, and adults: mass, mid-morning snack, triki-poteo (a musical pub crawl), a magic show, and a children's play park. However, Nabarniz residents will save their energy for Saturday; in fact, a communal meal will be held early in the morning, and citizens have been urged to attend in costume. Furthermore, there will be an opportunity to sign up for the meal until September 7th. In the afternoon, there will be children's games and the Hamarrabakas txaranga (brass band), and at 10:00 PM, the concerts will begin with Streetwise, Gautegun, and DJ Arene. The festivities will conclude on Sunday with a demonstration of traditional Basque sports (herri kirolak) and a hand-pelota festival.
In Murueta, the Andra Mari festivals will begin on September 8th with an honorary aurresku (Basque dance) dedicated to the town. Residents will spend the days combining herri kirolak, competitions, and music. Additionally, four matches will be played among the players of the Sustabiz Arkupe Sports Club of Gernika, followed by a match between Aitor Etxebarria and Gaizka Karregal. On Wednesday, there will also be a comedy show called Furgonologo by Julen Axpe.
September 12th will be a day full of competitions in Murueta: a paella championship, a tortilla championship, and a brisca championship. From 10:00 PM onwards, it will be the turn of the group Txapela Brava.
The festivities will conclude the following day in Murueta. As is customary each day during the festivals, the day will begin with mass, followed by an opportunity to enjoy Basque dances and a bertso (improvised singing) session. With children's games and goitibeheras (homemade carts) in between, the Murueta residents will bid farewell to the festivities after the mus tournament.
