Over 300 people gathered in Durango this midday for a demonstration in support of public healthcare and to protest "steps towards privatization" of the healthcare system. The mobilization, called by the Durangaldea Pensioners' Movement, began in the town hall square and concluded near the specialized outpatient clinic after traversing the streets of the old town.
In a statement read in Basque and Spanish, they criticized the policies of the Basque Government, believing the healthcare system is moving "towards privatization." They also highlighted the "shortage of doctors" and "long waiting lists" in towns such as Zaldibar and Elorrio.
According to the organizers, more than 300 individuals from Durango, Iurreta, Berriz, Zornotza, Zaldibar, Elorrio, and various other towns participated in the rally.
Finally, a call was made to participate in a concentration scheduled for June 26th in front of the Bizkaia Provincial Council.
