Gerediaga Elkartea, with the support of the Garai Town Council, has initiated a project to recover the municipality's historical and cultural heritage.

Gerediaga Elkartea, with the impetus from the Garai Town Council, has commenced a project to recover the municipality's historical heritage. This initiative will unfold along three lines: interviews with residents, collection of graphic material, and an inventory of preserved manuscripts and documents.
Topics to be addressed in conversations with inhabitants include housing architecture and design, trades, food, rituals, songs, games, school life, and community work. Each participant will share their personal experiences and perspectives on these aspects of daily life. The meetings will be video-recorded for later online dissemination.
The proposal also includes a campaign to gather old photographs, seen as a crucial source for understanding past ways of life and documenting their evolution. Furthermore, a catalog of historical documents found in farmhouses and private homes will be compiled. These diverse materials offer insights into local history and the population's traditions, providing information on families, property, agricultural activities, and community relations.

"The cultural heritage of a town is reflected in the experiences, stories, customs passed down through generations, place names, or writings often kept at home without special value. It is the duty of institutions to strive so that all this legacy is researched, analyzed, and collected, so it can be passed on to future generations. One who does not know where they come from and does not understand what they have become is like a tree without a trunk."

Erramun Osa · Mayor of Garai

"This heritage collection can provide important keys to understanding the municipality's history. We also believe it will be an appreciated and interesting task."

Gotzon Gómez · President of Gerediaga Elkartea
To advance this initiative, a team has been formed, and its researchers will contact citizens to gather narratives and consult documentation.
