From July 18th to 31st, the town of Garai will celebrate a rich festival program. The events will kick off on Saturday, July 18th, at 08:00 with the IX Mountain March, followed by the VI Asto Trail mountain race (long and short).
On Sunday, July 19th, the day will begin with a chess tournament and exhibition, with free registration available up to 15 minutes before the competition starts. Afterwards, there will be rural sports and a seniors' lunch at the Otea Loran society. In the afternoon, in Elizabarri, bertsolaris will perform: Igor Elortza, Miren Artetxe, Maialen Lujanbio, and Irune Basagoiti, with Leire Vargas as the presenter.
On Friday, July 24th, the Donien Atxa will be raised and the ezpata-dantzaris will hold their final rehearsal. Additionally, there will be an opportunity to taste Lumagorri chicken pintxos, and in the evening, a romería (traditional Basque festival) will take place with the group Altxa Porru.
On Saturday, July 25th, the day will commence with a street parade featuring txistularis, dantzaris, and authorities. Following this, a main mass will be held at San Migel church, and the traditional procession of the image of Santiago will proceed to Elizabarri, featuring dances like the Agintariena and the Gernika tree. An ezpata-dantzari performance and a demonstration of rules will also take place in the afternoon. In the evening, the elektrotxaranga Gautxori and a concert by Kiliki will be featured.
On Sunday, July 26th, there will again be a street parade and main mass. Male and female rules will be demonstrated, and in the afternoon, a tortilla competition is organized with prizes of 100, 80, and 60 euros. In the evening, there will be a romería with the group Berriztu.
On Monday, July 27th, a brisca (card game) tournament will be held, with an entry fee of five euros per pair and prizes of 60, 40, and 20 euros. On Tuesday, July 28th, there will be children's games and workshops in the morning and afternoon, as well as a mus tournament, with an entry fee of 5 euros per pair and prizes of 60, 40, 30, and 20 euros.
On Wednesday, July 29th, a 3x3 football tournament will take place. On Thursday, July 30th, there will be a youth lunch followed by a ginkana (scavenger hunt). In the evening, DJ Delco and DJ Sierritx will perform, and the group Aiama will give a concert.
To conclude the month, on Friday, July 31st, there will be a main mass, a dance performance, and a street parade with costumed figures and dulzainero players. A local frog-throwing game (igel-jokoa) tournament will also be held, with an entry fee of 2 euros and prizes of 50, 30, and 20 euros. In the afternoon, the play 'Puxika Piratak' will be performed in the square (or in Elizabarri if it rains), and bullock tests (asto probak) will feature participants Irazola (Mallabia), Arkaitz Hormaetxea (Gatika), Ekaitz Elordui (Berango), and Salvador Erleaga (Arratzu). In the evening, a popular dinner and a dance with the group Eingo will conclude the festivities.
