The Basque Government will allocate over €2.5 million to modernize and reinforce the main infrastructures of San Sebastián Port, aiming to improve the safety, stability, and functionality of spaces essential for port activities and public use.
As announced by Amaia Barredo, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food Policy, the investment promoted by her department will amount to €2,554,105. The works will include the renovation of the quay and docking area of the Real Club Náutico, the reinforcement of the central quay's structure, and the repair of the final section of the docking area's staircase.
The objectives are to extend the infrastructure's lifespan, guarantee user safety, and adapt the facilities to the demands of a particularly rigorous marine environment. The first project, the renovation of the docking area's staircase, has already commenced. With an investment of €107,343 and a three-month execution period, the current structure will be replaced by a new metal staircase designed for greater safety, resistance, and durability against the sea's impact.
The second major project, scheduled to begin in early 2027, will focus on reinforcing the structure of the port's central quay. With an investment of €1.1 million and a nine-month execution period, the intervention will target the strategic 362-meter-long infrastructure separating the fishing harbor from the sports harbor. The project includes reinforcing foundations, strengthening the quay's structure, and repairing sections of natural stone walls.
The largest-scale work, to be carried out from the first quarter of 2028, will be the comprehensive renovation of the quay and docking area of the Real Club Náutico of San Sebastián, with an investment exceeding €1.34 million. This will involve repairing and reinforcing the quay, which has suffered from erosion and deterioration, as well as a complete renewal of the docking area, replacing damaged structural elements and improving components affected by salinity and corrosion.
These works, in addition to improving working conditions and operational efficiency in port activities, will directly impact the safety and quality of use of some of the most frequented and emblematic areas of San Sebastián's waterfront. The Government thus reaffirms its commitment to the conservation, modernization, and enhancement of Basque ports, promoting actions that strengthen their economic activity and ensure their adaptation to future needs.
