The Durango City Council has completed the design for 37 ecological recreational gardens, offering residents a space to grow vegetables sustainably, with an anticipated launch in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Residents of Durango will soon have a dedicated space for ecological vegetable cultivation, promoting agricultural biodiversity and reviving traditional farming practices. The City Council has finalized the design of the recreational gardens project and is preparing the tender documents to put the works out for bid in June.
The total area allocated for this initiative will be 4,300 square meters, of which 1,800 will be used for the recreational gardens. Approximately 37 plots will be created, with pathways to facilitate access to each plot. This project will not only be available for the enjoyment of Durango residents but will also allocate some gardens for groups with special needs.
A system for recycling plant material will also be incorporated, which will be composted and used as fertilizer. Additionally, a shed for changing rooms and tool storage will be built, and a path between plots will be enabled to facilitate access to the gardens. It is expected to have a public price of 50 euros per year, ensuring its accessibility for all citizens.
The total estimated cost for the work is 262,898 euros, and the execution of the works is expected to take three months. Once completed, the City Council hopes to launch the gardens in the fourth quarter of 2026, offering citizens a space for ecological cultivation and contributing to the promotion of sustainable agricultural practices.
