The City Council has launched the eighth edition of the Participatory Budgets. This call will primarily focus on activities and events, rather than investments in infrastructure works. A total of 300,000 euros will be allocated for the 2027 budget, divided into three blocks of 100,000 euros each: Sports and Youth, Culture and Basque Language, and Society and Festivities.
The deadline for submitting proposals is from May 18th to June 5th, via the municipal platform partehartu.durango.eus. Participation is open to all registered residents of Durango aged 16 and over, as well as associations wishing to present initiatives on behalf of their groups. Proposals must be legally and economically viable, fall within municipal competencies, and be linked to activities in the designated areas. Therefore, proposals related to large-scale works, staff hiring, or increased service expenditure will be excluded.
Once the submission period closes, the received proposals will be published on the municipal website between June 9th and 12th for public review. Subsequently, from June 13th to 26th, municipal departments will analyze their feasibility and prioritize those eligible for the next phase. Voting will take place from July 3rd to 24th, during which each resident of Durango can select the projects they deem most interesting, with a maximum of one vote per area across the three categories.
Selected projects will be incorporated into the 2027 municipal budget between July and September, prior to approval by the Governing Board. Individuals needing assistance to submit their proposals can find information on the participation website, at the Citizen Service Offices, and at the Astarloa Senior Center. They can also contact the City Council by phone at 946 030 000.
The Councilor for Citizen Participation, Iker Txertudi, has encouraged Durango residents to get involved in the process, believing this new edition allows for "continued strengthening of citizen involvement in decision-making regarding the use of public funds." He explained that the City Council aims to direct this call towards "more cultural, sports, and community activities," with the goal of supporting projects that foster coexistence, well-being, and cultural and sports development. "We want Durango residents to propose initiatives that contribute to improving the quality of life in Durango," he emphasized.
