This year's San Lorenzo festivals have begun in Berastegi, upholding tradition. The official events commenced at 12:00 PM in the town hall square, following the morning's children's frontenis championship finals, which started at 10:30 AM. Oihan Yeregi emerged victorious in the individual category against Eñaut Mendikute, while Alain Medina and Urtzi Arraras won the doubles match against Oier Meñike and Ibai Zubillaga.
The festive atmosphere ignited after the Basurde association members lit the firecracker. Subsequently, costumed figures (buruhandiak), trikitilari musicians, pandero players, and txistulari players took over to liven up the celebration. The Buztintxuri giant parade from Pamplona was also present, dancing to the tunes provided by the Ezpelur dulzaineros group.
At the pelota court near the square, the local doubles Basque pelota championship final took place. Unai Onsalok and Mattin Intxaurrondok secured victory against Jon Lasa and Iñigo Lezarea.
In the afternoon, a traditional rural sports competition (herri kirolak) was organized among residents at the school entrance. In the evening, a communal dinner (herri afari) will be held at 9:30 PM. Following the dinner, town representatives will present awards for various competitions. From midnight onwards, DJ Bull will perform in the main square.
Tomorrow, Friday, will be Children's Day in Berastegi. Youngsters will wake up early for inflatables and games at the school entrance starting at 10:30 AM, continuing until lunchtime. In the afternoon, a clay pigeon shooting event is scheduled at Artaleku, and children will have the opportunity to enjoy inflatables and games throughout the afternoon. Later, an foam party will take place at the school entrance. At 7:00 PM, the Zker Band elektrotxaranga will entertain the town's streets, followed by the traditional Zahagi ardoa (wine from a wineskin).
At 11:30 PM, the band Sukena will perform a concert, and afterwards, to continue the night of singing and dancing, the group Txapela Brava will take over in the town square until the early morning hours.
