Organized by the Udazken Txistulari Taldea with support from the Amorebieta-Etxano City Council, this initiative aims to promote the txistu as a vibrant musical instrument in contemporary society. This special 25th-anniversary edition promises a more extensive program and a larger number of participants.
The day will commence in the morning, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, with members of the Udazken Txistulari Taldea parading through various parts of the municipality. At 12:00 PM, a joint procession will take place through the town center, filling the streets with music.
In the afternoon, from 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM, the main event will unfold: a grand gathering of approximately 65 txistu players. This year, 12 groups from Bizkaia, Gipuzkoa, and Navarra will participate, accompanied by bagpipers and a brass instrument ensemble. The groups will tour different areas of Amorebieta-Etxano, offering short concerts.
The participating groups include: Usartza (Eibar), Gazteak (Errenteria-Gernika), Jaizale (Durango), Gure Ametsa (Mungia), Kankinkabara (Bermeo), Oskia (Pamplona), Euskal Giroa Txistulariak (Sestao), Santurtziko Txistulari Banda (Santurtzi), Goiz Deia (Legazpi), Itxaropena (Lekeitio), Segundo Olaeta (Gernika), and Udazken (Amorebieta-Etxano).
The poster for this year's event was designed by Nerea Etxebarria Gumuzio and will serve as the official image for this festival dedicated to spreading the sound of the txistu throughout the streets of Amorebieta-Etxano.
The Udazken Txistulari Taldea actively works year-round to promote the txistu. They organize Sunday parades (except in August), participate in neighborhood festivals, and have been organizing the Txistulari Concert for the Karmengo festivities for 26 years, ensuring this tradition linked to Basque culture remains vibrant.
