The Abadiño City Council has unanimously approved its incorporation into the Renewable Energy Community, an initiative designed to generate and consume clean energy within the municipality, aiming to reduce costs and advance towards a more sustainable model.

This initiative will enable the generation and consumption of clean energy within the municipality itself, with the goal of reducing energy expenditure and moving towards a more sustainable model. The project originated in late 2023, driven by the interest of several residents in promoting a more participatory energy system.
Following this impetus, the City Council began a process of analysis, meetings, and studying experiences in other localities. In April 2024, technical assistance was awarded to a specialized company, which has allowed the proposal to be developed to its final administrative phase.

The energy community has been established as a cooperative under the name 'Abadiñoko Energia Berriztagarrien Komunitatea' and will encourage the participation of citizens, businesses, small companies, and the Consistory.

The local institution will integrate as a full-fledged consumer partner, which will facilitate the supply of public buildings with renewable energy generated locally. Among the anticipated benefits are a reduction in electricity bills, access to external financing, and the promotion of social contribution, with measures aimed at vulnerable families. Furthermore, it will contribute to decreasing CO₂ emissions.
The first installation will be located on the roof of the Municipal Brigade's warehouse, on Astolabeitia street. This building already has a preliminary setup, which will make its expansion and modernization easier.
